Pruning & Collapsed aims to use a model compression technique as an exploration tool
we started by taking this idea of gradually pruning or compressing the ai model architecture and exploring the development of the journey as a concept and an artwork by itself.

as the catalyst engine of the work, is our Experience by taking it as an outward expression of the pruning we felt on the inside when first met with the concept of combining art and ai,
how can we do that when even we as practitioners are polar opposite of each other as the ai experts cared about the inputs and outputs of the machine the artist cared about the journey and the concept.
Pruning & Collapsed
Ai Generated sculpture
how can we do that when even we as practitioners are polar opposite of each other as the ai experts cared about the inputs and outputs of the machine the artist cared about the journey and the concept.

We started questioning how even with all of these advances in AI there is still a worker mentality and pragmatism to it, some sort of a deadpan recording and structuring of life, that still cannot replace the careful consideration of composition, form and flourish that is normally associated with art and artists.
So how can we combine them both when not only as crafts but even as practitioners are fundamentally different?

the answer we found to these questions is we don't combine it we challenge it we take the ai model and fabricate the artist journey for it by exploring, playing and combining of different ai models and data sets while it's being gradually pruned focusing on the process over the finished artwork, in our case uniqueness isn't important as we'll make new iterations following the same process the way an artist would.

finally this artwork urges the viewer to think about ai technology it's forms and functions. but also the denial of it through an emphasis on tactility and the physical presence of the artist as for the most part this artwork wouldn't have existed if the artist wasn't present.
